CC 423 H. pygmaea - crystalline form

This superb crystalline form came as CG 662, a leaf propagation, from Cok in 1988.

I don't recall it offsetting but I have used it in hybridizing.

Two updated photos.

See how dark the other leaf surfaces can become if the plant is given good light. This can emphasize the contrast of the white crystalline surfaces which are densely papillate.

CC 1559 H. pygmaea - crystalline form, EK - 1.

From Mr. Mitsuo Ekuma - Japan in 1991 as a tri-headed plant, possibly from the ISI ? I divided up the clump but lost one head; the other two heads are doing well.

The retuse area is relatively flat and the leaves can produce good, pink tints with enough light. These crystalline surfaces have short, stubby papillae which are less dense.

This  frosted clone came to us from Jumanery in 10/1987 for £1.50. At that time it was a  5 leaved, 18 month old seedling just starting rotation. Its diameter was then 2.5cm with a leaf- window width of 8mm. It has grown & offset slowly.

I have not divided it in any way but have used it in hybridizing.

Using H. pygmaea in hybridizing is a hit an miss affair owing to the crystalline surface being an extreme form of H. pygmaea which does not always come through in the offspring. - Worth a try though.

These papillae are thinner and multidirectional - like it has washed its hair and can't do a thing with it!

Two updated photos.

CC 1526 H. pygmaea f. crystallina

Grown from 22 seeds ex YO 584 Yui Ochi - Japan and sown on 10/07/1989

Large leaf, exquisite form with heavy, grey frosting. By 2004 it had developed into a fine clone with two offsets developing.

These leaves have nicely domed retuse surfaces which are densely papillate.

Two updated photos.

This fantastic clone came to me from Bob Swan on 05/11/1996

- with the note that it was a 'nice Japanese form' - a bit of an understatement, I'd say!

It's so heavily papillate that even the tip of the inflorescence is frosted!

This blushing clone came to us on 08/10/2003 from Françoise & Christian Prud'hon as their PE 06-98-1. They had obtained it from Cok ex Hiroshi Kobayashi of Japan.

Even the inner leaf surfaces are burgundy red! Although the papillate surfaces may not readily pass on to offspring, this fantastic colour might.
