CC 29 H. emelyae v.
comptoniana
A translucent form
obtained from Jumanery for £5.00 in 06/1985.
At that time it
comprised a 5 leaved rosette with leaves each 1.7cm wide.
By 03/1987 the rosette
had developed into 9+ glassy-tipped retuse leaves with the largest leaf
being 2.4cm wide. Today it's 10cms
in diameter and still a single rosette. I
didn't have an easy ride with this plant and learnt a lot from
the experience. In
the hot and bright conservatory, at that time, it would split
and develop brown tips and/or brown patches at the drop of a
hat. I decided to pot it into a clay pot so that I could water
it more freely without over watering it. When the present
Haworthia greenhouse was erected I placed it in a cooler area
where it received dappled shade from our deciduous
weeping-willow tree. Eventually,
it settled down. In 2002 I repotted it back into a square,
plastic pot and, so far so good. I do believe we've learnt to
live with one another's eccentricities!
